Who am I?
I’m Krista. I’m from New York (Long Island, really) and Florida, but I used to live in Chicago. And then I moved to London. And then I moved back to Chicago. But then I missed London so much, I had to come back and from June 2014 to September 2018, I was back in London. I’m on the road now, traveling for an indeterminate amount of time.
Oh, and I also like restaurants. And airports. And traveling, of course. (Does anyone not like these things?? Maybe my affection for airports is a bit quirky — I blame my dad who used to take me plane-spotting — but I hope everyone else likes restaurants and travel too.) I also like economics, math(s) and statistics, which is why you’ll sometimes find oblique (or not so oblique) references to such on my site. Blame these people.
I started my London restaurant blog three months after moving to the UK in 2004. I posted my first London restaurant “review” on the blog on June 26th, 2004; it was The Providores in Marylebone, which remains a special place for me even today. You could say it was my inspiration. And you know what’s crazy? Guess what day I re-arrived in London in 2014? Sometimes the world tries to tell us things if we listen. In September of 2018, I decided to become a digital nomad for a bit, hence why the site has become more of a solo travel blog.
Why do I do this?
My goal in creating this blog is to motivate myself to explore the cities I visit, eat in restaurants that normal people eat in, and give myself something to do in my spare time. Oh yes, and to reassure my parents that I am still alive. 14 years after starting my site, I’m no longer the kid I once was so it’s fair to say that blogging also keeps me hip to the trends.
What do I know?
Never overestimate the power of my food and solo travel blog. Full disclosure: I did study journalism in university (Go Irish!), and when I was in my teens and early 20s, I did work in the food service industry. These things all happened a long time ago and I can barely remember how to write a compelling lede and I never want to clean out a walk-in again. (Especially after midnight. Cleaning out a walk-in in the wee hours of the morning really sucks.) Ah…you should know I’m also an unsuccessful restaurant investor. (Backed an amazing chef though!) All this being said, this blog is really just a hobby and a way to pass the time. I added ads in July of 2010 to help me break even after years as a paid Typepad subscriber, a (painful) migration to Wordpress, and to pay for the occasional beer. Like most of us, I pay my bills by working for the man.
Some disclosure (Borrowed from Seth Godin)
On occasion, I’m delighted to accept samples of stuff of small value. I recommend that brands not send me things though. There’s no correlation between mentioning stuff and whether or not I received it via my blog. I would change this policy immediately if the Mexican Tourist Board were to send me to Mexico for two (or more) weeks to write about their food. (Same applies to the Japanese Tourist Board. Or the Korean Tourist Board.)
My goal in creating this London restaurant blog cum solo travel blog is to spread my love of food and my love of travel. At the end of the day though, I’m an amateur, not a professional. I do not work in the hospitality industry.
If any of this changes, I promise to let you know.
If you’d like to get in touch because you’re a fan or because you’d like to talk about advertising or other forms of sponsorship, please drop me a note.
A note about comments on my blog
Sometimes, strange people write strange things on my blog. This makes me wonder, “Who has this much time?”
If I think a person has submitted a comment to Passportdelicious.com that is hurtful, totally random or just plain weird, I reserve the right to not publish the comment. Also, if a comment appears to be anonymous (i.e., the commenter has obviously made up an e-mail address), I reserve the right to not publish that comment either. I use the “reasonable person” rule. If you don’t know what that is, you can read more on Wikipedia.
Peace. And happy explorations.

I just stumbled across your blog and have to say how much I enjoyed it, I had only planned on a wee visit but have worked my way through Milan, Windsor and Bath, mostly becasue I had been to those places in the recent past and enjoyed reading your comments.
Thanks so much for sharing your experiences.
I too just found your blog, and as another American in London, it’s always great to hear what other expats are up to. It’s so easy to just stay in the routine of home-work-eat-sleep and forget that I live in an amazing place where I might not stay for the rest of my life, so I should get out and get exploring!
i LOVE Providores – also one of my most favourite places in London. And I cook, not bake. Maybe I can learn a thing or two from your blog 🙂
Hey Krista,
Another American in London 🙂
Loving your blog. I’m def going to put some of your recommendations on my long list.
Also, I’m looking for people who live in London and know the city well to join in on a Q&A project on my blog called Listen to a Londoner. It’s 10 questions – just faves around the city like restaurants, parks, etc. Let me know if you want to give it a go.

Finally sat still long enough to read through several of your food journal entries after seeing your blog listed on Urbanspoon. Outstanding. From a fellow foodie, continue putting up the great recommendations for eateries.
I like your comment rules. Much like mine. You leave absolute twoddle and I hit the delete button! If you’re ever keen on guest blogging drop me a line please. Maybe you can do a post on British places in Chicago? Visited Chi-town last month and absolutely love it.
Interesting idea! I will give it some thought! Thanks for dropping by! -Krista
Chicago and London. Not bad places to split your time with regards to food! We have just finished a book on food from around the world, but it just gives you more urges to try MORE!
I come across to read your blog by searching review Sofitel Hanoi Vietnam for my job and much enjoy reading your travelling stories already 🙂
Keep posting and keep sharing!!
