The Damage: 25 GBP a head
So I am now addicted to TopTable.co.uk. Jill, Becky and I had tickets to see Some Girls with David Schwimmer at The Gielgud, so I jumped on TopTable to see what types of specials they could offer me. For 15 quid a head, we had three courses, PLUS champagne. OK, but then we ordered a bottle of red and some sparkling water and with the service charge, we added another 10 GBP each. But still! How fantastic.
First course for me was of course the foie gras. Becky and Jill opted for the goat cheese, which looked very nice. I was particulary enamored with my toast–very nice and crisp and a little buttery.
For mains, Beck and I opted for the risotto and Jill for the salmon. You know about my rule about salmon, right? The risotto was nice, but not nearly as nice as the risotto in Split and Hvar Croatia. (Why didn’t I do write-ups of my vacation? I do not know.) It was cheesy and heavy. A bit of overkill. But yummy. But just in an un-yummy kind of way.
For dessert, Jill and Becky went for the Creme Brulee and I for the chocolate hazlenut cake. Mine was delicious. Becky felt like she was ice fishing. Enough said.
Our server admitted that she was really sick and at one point I touched her hand accidentally and it was really sweaty and clammy and now I’m afraid that by Sunday night, I’ll be sick too. (Mom always says to count back three days when you get sick. And 9 times out of 10, I can pinpoint exactly what made me sick!) But they were all really nice.
And I didn’t mention the bread. And the olive tapenade. Great stuff!
And the location can’t be beat for Covent Garden. The Gielgud is a bit of a hike, but a nice hike. If your show is at 8, I’d vote for a 6 pm dinner.
The Verdict: I like the BB. For 15 GBP, you can’t beat The TopTable deal with the champagne. How nice! Love it. Go.
