To keep myself occupied during my sojourn in South Florida over Christmas, I went on the hunt for “American food.” Distinctly American food and drink. Here’s the closest I got…although as a Yankee, I might argue that at least two out of three could qualify as southern American food. Can you guess which two?
Boiled peanuts, as found at Al’s Family Farms in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Peach butter for your waffles or pancakes, as found at the breakfast buffet at Gaylord Palms in Kissimmee, Florida.
The House Hash, found again at the Gaylord Palms breakfast buffet in Kissimmee.

Boiled peanuts are also popular in Southern India, though I have no idea where they originated. When you boil the peanut, it becomes much more obvious that the peanut is a legume and not a nut.
