"Still or Sparkling?" is one of my least favorite questions. "Neither" is the only correct answer. Why Londoners put up with this, I don’t know. Restaurants should only serve tap water.
Firstly, bottled water is expensive. Do you realize they charge you £3.50 for this crap? A 2 liter bottle of Evian costs 85p from Ocado.
Secondly, air miles.
Thirdly, ask your server if they’re going to recycle that glass or plastic when they’re done. Watch look of confusion and panic.
Fourthly, London water is FINE. And for all you who think otherwise, I say, "Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t." (Unless you’re drinking that Belu stuff…now that’s a good product.)
So I was excited to see this Evening Standard pronouncement. And I encourage you to join in with me as the answer to "Still or sparkling?" becomes "Neither."
And for the restauranteurs who might be reading this, try throwing a couple of lemon slices or cucumbers in there. Maybe even a strawberry or two. Now that’s a nice touch. (And some ice cubes. My kingdom for some ice cubes!)

You’re so right!
It’s the same in Paris.

Bravo! Let’s forego this water torture…
Yes, a really good news. I agree London water is fine, stop the paranoia.
we drank london tap water for ten days while we stayed with my cousin in clapham junction. there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. we only bought 2 bottles of water initially, so we could refill the bottles and carry them around with us. my cousin kept buying bottles and bottles of water and there was no room for anything else on his kitchen bench. very weird concept for us mediterraneans not to be able to drink water straight form the tap.
Oh, yeah, man. As a fellow American living in the LDN, I must say this is one of the only things that really irk me. And, forget about asking for a second glass. It’s just not going to happen. And why is it ALWAYS soooooo warm when they bring it out?
